Range and habitat: Lake sturgeon are found in the Mississippi River
basin, the Great Lakes, Hudson Bay and their associated river basins.
They generally live in cooler water of large lakes or rivers.
Natural diet: Lake sturgeoen are omnivorous bottom feeders
Size / weight range: This species can grow to 9 feet and weigh
up to 300 pounds
Interesting facts: Lake sturgeon are considered to be endangered
in the state of Ohio. Anglers must release any caught and report the catch
to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. These are an extremely primitive
group of bony fish. Eggs can be harvested from females and used as caviar,
a delicacy.
