For the Kids

Survival for the Fittest
11-14 years

Campers will spend a week in the wilderness learning skills such as canoeing, orienteering, survival and team building through cooperative activities, including setting up a primitive campsite. This is a co-ed adventure, where we will spend the first night in Mio, Michigan, and then take the skills we’ve learned onto the AuSable River, one of Michigan’s most scenic rivers, for an 80-mile canoe trip. Swimming, fishing and cooking out are all included. You will learn how to paddle and pack a canoe, tie knots, build fires, and pack and portage. Your guides for the week will provide experience and wisdom for the campers that attend this once in a lifetime camp.
    • Canoes, paddles, life jackets and transportation will be provided.
    • There will be a MANDATORY orientation meeting to attend for students        and parents prior to the trip. You may choose from two dates: Sunday,        June 8, 2008 or Saturday, June 14, 2008. Failure to have the camper        and/or parent at one of these meetings will forfeit the camper’s spot.
    • The Toledo Zoo controls registration for these camps; your child may not        switch weeks and your child’s spot may not be given to another child. If        you must cancel, The Toledo Zoo will find another camper to fill your child’s        spot. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in the forfeiture of your        child’s spot and your refund
.
