Special Events Volunteers

This is a brief overview of the Special Event Volunteer Program. If you have any questions, please contact the Volunteer Department at (419)385-5721 ext. 2045or volunteer@toledozoo.org.

Program Description
Special Event Volunteers support various events at the Toledo Zoo throughout the calendar year. Events are typically held on weekends, and most are held in the evenings, with some events ending as late as 11:00 p.m. Volunteers will perform a variety of functions, including, but not limited to:

  • Providing directions or information to event participants
  • Pouring beverages/serving beverages to event participants
  • Assisting staff with general event logistics (set-up, tear-down, registration, etc.)

Requirements

  • You may need to lift and carry items up to 10 lbs. over short distances

Dress Code
In general, Special Event Volunteers do not have a specific uniform requirement, although limited exceptions do exist. For example, some events may require black pants/shorts/skirt and a white short/long-sleeved shirt. However, most events only require clean, presentable clothing that is appropriate for the weather (cold, heat, rain, etc.). Dress code information will be provided when events are posted, so you will have that information in advance.

Time Commitment
Special Event Volunteers are required to:

  • Submit a volunteer application, attend an interview, and complete an orientation
  • Support at least 2 special events during the calendar year
  • Event volunteers will be notified of events via email and can sign up for events through an on-line scheduling system.
