Program options are available Mon-Sat 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. If you would like to book a program outside of these times, please contact us by the form below. Programs must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
The Toledo Zoo reserves the right to cancel and reschedule a program due to staff illness or inclement weather.
Virtual Field Trips
Duration: 30-40 minutes
Cost: $55 per session
Description: Utilizing web based video connections, students explore STEM topics and view live animals. Each program includes a knowledgeable educator showing animals up close and plenty of time for interactive responses and questions
Outreach Programs
Duration: 45-60 minutes
Cost: $75 in Lucas County/$90 outside Lucas County per session
Description: Zoo educators can come to your facility! We offer a variety of programs for single classrooms of up to 35 students that align to state standards and introduce STEM and life science topics, along with up to 60-minute community programs formatted for sit down presentation or drop-by tables. Each program features a Zoo Educator, hands-on activities and theme of your choice. A virtual connection to the Zoo may be added to your program for an additional fee.
Programs can take place in the following counties: Lucas, Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot.
Outreach Programs do not travel with live animals.
Venues more than one hour from the Zoo may be subject to additional travel fees.
Toledo Zoo Project Based Learning (PBL) Series
Toledo Zoo will assist you in providing an authentic PBL unit for a single classroom. Four projects are available to choose from (descriptions below). Each PBL series includes 3 in person visits from the zoo to the classroom and a virtual visit. A fieldtrip to the zoo can be substituted for the virtual program. Optional follow-up visit for students to present the projects to zoo staff. PBL units follow inquiry-based standards and the design process. PBL units may be used as artifacts for STEM/STEAM designation.
Cost: $300 per classroom of up to 35 students
Endangered species - students choose from a list of endangered species provided by the zoo. Students need to generate a solution for how to help the endangered species (prevent from going extinct).
Animal Enrichment - students choose from a list of animals provided by the zoo. Students need to create an enrichment for that animal based on its adaptations.
Animal Habitat Design - students choose from a list of animals provided by the zoo. They need to build a new exhibit for that animal in the zoo based on its needs.
Project PRAIRIE PBL - for schools with prairies we can assist you in conducting a prairie data collection project. Students will think of an authentic question and collect data in the prairie.
