African rescue centers are under growing pressure to care for the rising number of wild animals confiscated from the illegal bushmeat and pet trades - a conservation crisis fueled by extreme poverty, urban expansion and weak law enforcement. In December of 2024, the Toledo Zoo officially partnered with Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) in Cameroon. For over 30 years, LWC has served a crucial role as a safe haven for rescued gorillas, chimpanzees and other wildlife, as well as serving as an economic engine for their community and hub for environmental education in the region.
This fall, leading up to Giving Tuesday on Dec. 1st, 100% of the donations raised in this campaign will support international conservation programs like the Limbe Wildlife Centre! For every $50 donated, donors will be entered in a raffle to receive a plush gorilla, gorilla photography print from the Zoo's photography team, and a private experience with the gorilla keepers at the Toledo Zoo. All donors will receive access to a livestream weblink featuring our keeper staff and gorillas for Wildlife Conservation Day on Fri, 12/4. Thank you for your support!
