SSSENSATIONAL EXPERIENCES & COLD-BLOODED CREATURES
The Reptile House was completed in 1934 by the Civil Works Administration (CWA), the precursor to the Works Progress Administration (WPA). This building was constructed entirely by hand with salvaged brick from abandoned local structures, timber from Wabash Railroad Roundhouse and stone from Ohio and Erie Canal locks and piers.
In late 2024, repairs and updates began to preserve the integrity of this historic building while creating new experiences for guests.
The reimagined Reptile House, home to various snakes, turtles and amphibians, features:
- New & unique residents.
- Larger crocodile exhibit & holding area for training.
- Expanded exhibits with more space & better views for guests.
- The Atrium, a dedicated event space with underwater crocodile viewing.
- Infrastructure upgrades like a new roof, plumbing, electrical & air conditioning.
The Reptile House will reopen to the public on Fri, May 22, 2026. Guests can enjoy giveaways, live entertainment, strolling performers, animal demos, crafts and more, all included with Zoo admission.
