With a Heat Wave on the Way, the Toledo Zoo Offers 10 Ways to Stay Cool

Toledo, OH — June 23, 2025 — As the region braces for a heatwave, the Toledo Zoo is helping guests stay safe, cool and comfortable while still enjoying everything the Zoo has to offer. From misting splash zones to shaded trails and indoor exhibits, there are plenty of ways to beat the heat while making summer memories with family and friends.
Here are 10 ways to stay cool at the Toledo Zoo during the upcoming heatwave:
1. Start early with a morning visit
The Zoo is opening one hour early at 9 a.m. every day from June 23-29. Guests will have a chance to explore attractions, like the Nancy L. & Martin Davidson Barnyard and Tower Ridge Giraffe Feed Deck, in the cooler morning temperatures before the summer sun peaks.
2. Stay late during Twilight Evenings
With extended hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays, guests can visit the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures and enjoy a peaceful twilight stroll through the exhibits. Admission is until 8 p.m., Zoo closes at 9 p.m.
3. Make a splash
The splash pad in the Aquarium Adventure Trail is a hit with kids and parents alike, offering refreshing water jets and interactive fun during the hottest parts of the day.
